  • How To Prevent Pipes From Freezing

    To prevent pipes from freezing, follow these steps:  


    Keep the Heat On. 

    -Maintain an indoor temperature of at least 55°F (13°C), even if you're away. 

    -Open cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air to circulate around the pipes.  


    Let Faucets Drip

    - Allow a slow, steady drip of cold water from faucets connected to exposed pipes.  

    - Moving water is less likely to freeze.  


    Insulate Pipes

    - Use pipe insulation sleeves, foam, or heat tape on exposed pipes, especially in attics, basements, and crawl spaces.  


    Seal Leaks and Drafts

    - Seal gaps and cracks near pipes, especially where they enter walls or near windows and doors.  

    - Use caulk or insulation to keep cold air out. 


    Keep Garage Doors Closed

    - If water supply lines run through the garage, keep doors closed to maintain warmth.  


    Use Heating Devices

    - In extreme cold, use space heaters in areas with exposed pipes (but keep them away from flammable materials).  

    - Heat tape or cables can also be applied to pipes for added protection.  


    Drain Outdoor Water Lines

    - Disconnect and drain garden hoses.  

    - Shut off outdoor faucets and use hose bib covers to insulate them.  

    - Drain sprinkler systems if necessary.

  • Is It Normal For Pipes To Rattle?

    This is an effect called Water Hammer. This happens when a pipe is loose or it can be caused by above average amount of water pressure. These could lead to water leakage or water damage if the pipes burst.

  • When Do I Need to Repipe?

    If you have had to call a plumber to your home or business to do repairs multiple times in a year then it might be time to repipe.
